Wow. second day, nine stories done, and our savvy editors (Annie, Sydney, and Eegee) fiercely working (caffeine free, I might add) on six more before the hour has even tolled six.

It's been a fast paced day and it all began with our stellar field crew:

Reporter Bree and videographer Pamela, reporting on the underground Capitol tunnels. Reporter Erica and videographer Shouana, reporting on Voting, and Reporter Lindsey and videographer Jolissa reporting on the Press Conference....and soooo many more stories rocked out...

This crew is very focused, very professional, and really showing a lot of enthusiasm! Beth Ziebarth, station manager, is doing a fantabulous job keeping everyone on task.

It's 2009!

It is 2009 and YIG Model Assembly is about to begin once again.

For the past two months, the YMCA Youth in Government TV Program has been training their television crew at SPNN in preparation for the Model Assembly program in early January, when youth take over the Capitol and form a youth legislature. The 25 person TV crew has been busy learning studio, reporting, and editing skills under the direction of SPNN Youth Programs instructors Joanna, Dawn, Amanda, and Megan. During the Model Assembly, the YIG TV crew will produce a nightly newscast and talk show which will be aired live at the Hilton Hotel, where all YIG participants will be staying. The shows will also air on SPNN’s YTV Channel 16 in February, so stay tuned! Last Day of Work

On this Saturday afternoon, it is a simple and smooth day for me. I actually had lunch at noon, unlike the previous days, which was usually a little later. It feels like a wrap-up for filming.

It was the first night and the teams were informed about the clown bill. The bill suggested that hobos wear clown suits. Two teams went down to the Capitol in St.Paul to interview the writer, Max Sager. The two reporters, Laura and Amanda, went into the committee room to have a moment with Max Sager. When he came out, we prepared for the interview. Suddenly, I realized I had no tape. Frantically, I looked through the camera bag and still no tape. I looked to the Team 3 videographer, Rahma, and asked if she had a tape. In my surprise, she shook her head. We had to go back to the Hilton.

What I learned from this experience is that you should always be prepared. Make sure that you have all the equipment that you need. I'm happy I had the experience to have learned this lesson. From this I made sure that did not happen again.

Kevin helped me a lot and taught me how to make better shots. I feel like I am much more confident using camera equipment.

I met new people and learn how to be better with the camera. I learned how to push away self-limitations and be more of a hard worker. I love the YIG TV experience because it is one of the few things that brings me closer to the things I love about life. Being prepared for the unexpected and putting my best foot forward.

First I would like to start out with an apology:

I am so sorry that I kept you away from your book and made you read the same page over and over all because I wanted to chat about Vlogs. Hopefully this blog and its content will make up for any inconvenience I was.

Moving on...

This day was crazy, that is the only word i can use to describe it. After waking up at five AM and, in crazy unison with Zander, arriving at eight AM at the Hilton, the three of us (don't forget Xavier) started a very interesting day.

We were first greeted by a very prompt crew, everyone was present and accounted for before nine. That is also when we happened upon the first bump in the road....

Not wanting to go into the details, lets just say that we have our regular training sessions at SPNN for a reason. It is for the crew to learn how to properly operate the equipment we use. ALL crew members are required to attend ALL sessions unless you have an acceptable reason, and if such a reason is needed, you need to contact one of the staff members at SPNN. If you fail to show up to more than two you are out of TV. This is common knowledge among YIG TV participants and we( the adult advisors, Xavier and I) all agree that it is a fair policy.

Oh, the inconvenient beauty of rules.

At our daily morning meeting very creative story ideas were suggested. I especially loved the thought of a bookend special (it almost sounds like a sandwich). The idea came from Kayce - the brilliant Adult Advisor with jouranalistic background - in essence we plan on doing two stories of the youth Governor: one at the beginning of session highlighting his goals and aspirations for Model Assemble and the second we will review with him these goals, weather or not they were accomplished and what he thought was awesome about the weekend.

Other great story ideas were decided upon and i was especially surprised how the classic story of "where to eat" was incorporated, for some reason it seemed fresh and new (and hopefully it is seeing as how i haven't seen the finished product).

Also, with the help of the extremely fun and philosophical Megan, Amanda and I were able to completely evolve our "Arriving/Welcome to YIG" story.

It was stellar :)

After filming and logging all of our stories, field crew was finally allowed a break for lunch... at 2:30. However, courageous Matt and i braved venturing down to the vicious (rumors only) Newspaper room.

It was way better than we thought it would turn out to be. We actually got a script AND we had a very productive conversation about how to approach the format of the script and also made appointments for friday and saturday. Thanks Matt, for being a trooper.

I am always so amazed at the chaos that ensues during the first day of model assembly. People are EVERYWHERE and it drives me crazy. That is one of the reasons why I love TV so much. We get here at 9AM (or 8 if you are named Beth or Zander) and totally avoid any wait for our rooms (and elevators due to our handy TV badges). It sends tingles up my spine just thinking about the awesomeness.

Currently I am sitting watching Kevin and Megan play Guitar Hero. It is quite interesting, they aren't so good. I would like to throw out props to Zander (currently roaming the skyways with other field crew members) for bringing the wasabi pea party mix.

I would like to finish by stating one of the most appropriate quotes i have ever heard said by our very own Kevin:

YIG TV meet together and began to form the 2008 YIG TV CREW. Two Crews were created, Field Crew and Studio Crew. Each Crew is responsible there own part of the News Broadcast. Xavier came on as the 2008 Station Manager and Beth will be this years Executive Producer.
